There’s certainly something about cats that people just love – they’re beautiful, purring, intelligent pets that love and entertain us every day. The fact that, unlike dogs, cats are low maintenance is also a plus for many cat owners. On the flip side, however, cat hair and claws on your outdoor furniture can be annoying and expensive. Not to worry, cats are very sensitive to smells. Here are a couple of things you can do to safely keep them away from your outdoor cushions.
VINEGAR REPELLENT – Cats dislike the smell of vinegar. You can use a small spray bottle to mix one part of white vinegar, one part of water and one part of liquid hand soap. The mixture is safe to spray on your outdoor furniture, including cushions, but use sparingly.
MAKE A POTPOURRI – Cats strongly dislike the smell of citrus. Make a potpourri using lemon, tangerine, lime and orange peels. You can combine the peels with a homemade citrus-infused spray to enhance the scent. A combination of lemon juice, citronella oil and water works wonders to release the delicate smell of dried peels. You may also keep a small handful of the potpourri in little bags, which you can place inside the cushion covers.
Now you can enjoy your cats and your outdoor furniture this summer!
